Warrior's Rest

History

Along the road leading from Blackhollow to Seolforton, just past the border into Sarton, there lies an unusual grove of trees. There are plenty of solitary trees along the plains, as well as some small patches of woods, but none are quite the same. The trees are gnarled and old, the bark ranging from shades of silvery white to charcoal black. The trees themselves are ancient relics of a bygone era. When one creeps closer to the grove, usually a traveler who has not yet heard the stories, they notice a faint mist begin to creep in which gradually thickens. Within the grove are many burial mounds. They are unmarked, and nobody knows how many bodies lie beneath the soil. None dare to find out, as it is said that any who disturb the graves will be cursed for eternity.   Not much is known about the history of Warrior's Rest. Historians recount legends of a great war that came far before the Great War that we know of. The war occurred before the rise of nation-states, though many know it as The First War. It was a cosmological conflict, where gods met gods in open battle, among all planes of existence. And where did mankind end up? As usual- caught in the crossfire, fighting and dying for a cause they couldn't hope to comprehend.   The souls of many of those warriors who died in the conflict are said to have ended up among these burial mounds. They are restless. The few brave enough to have ventured in report specters that wander the grove, unable to "pass on".
