Feathered serpent pendant
The Feathered Serpent is a pendant carved out of the tail bone of a couatl (known colloquially as a feathered serpent). Shaped in an open spiral with the feathery head on one side and the tail on the other it is a fine and masterly crafted piece. With two spinel gems as eyes, and turquoise and diamonds decorating the body on both sides of the pendant the pendant glitters in the light.
Although lost there are many legends around it. Some swear the wearer could call the serpent to them, others believe it had magical properties allowing the wearer to be healed or even call down lightning. It was also rumoured to give control over the wind as the Serpent was the god of Wind.
Those who wielded it often lost their mind from the sheer power. And so it was thought the monster dwelt within and drove them insane by whispering to them.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
There was once an outer part that allowed the inner serpent part to spin around in many directions but sadly that part was removed and lost. It was speculated that with the spinning came time control abilities or even immortality.
Manufacturing process
A long period of carving and smoothing before the gems were inset.
History
This is thought to have been created for the first Kindred of the Wind leader. It was passed down from leader to leader until the Triumvirate was established after the Great Sandstorm and it was lost.
Significance
It was present during many rituals and ceremonies over the years and it's thought that each Kindred Leader put a little of their soul into it. It may have been used as a holy symbol for spell casting but also possibly as a means of communication with the gods.
