Sand throwers

Description

A long piece of slate that has a Attrandian Crystal in the back of the board. The Sand Trower is propelled by a large blast of air being pushed out of the magic stone and shoots the board forward. The propulsion caused by this throws a large cloud of sand behind the board giving it its name. The piece of slate the board is made of is made from condensed stone from the sand below the mud pits in the Deprin Dunes. This slate is not extremely heavy but has a lot of durability from damage to the front of the board but damage to the top or bottom results in a large amount of damage. This means that head-on collisions often don't break a board but attempt to steer away from a head-on collision that fails resulting in the board exploding on impact with its bottom or side.

Culture around Sand Throwers

Sand Throwers can work everywhere but because of their difficulty in making and because the Attrandian is only found in the Deprin Dunes, they are only used in and around the Deprin Dunes often by the Yalvake or a select few that trade with the nomadic group. The devices themselves are often used as a method of travel for hunters in the Yalvake and thus have little in terms of recreational purpose besides the occasional races and tricks done by the elite hunters. The process of getting a Sand Thrower is done via a hunting competition called a Day-Night Trial and is tied to adulthood for many among the day born in the Yalvake. This competition is a whole day-long event where a person without a Sand Thrower challenges a person with one to the competition and if they win they gain the board. Any new boards have a similar competition but between two people that don't have boards.
