Airships

The original designs for airships was done in the Age of the Arcane. These designs were found during excavations of some of the cities scattered across the world. The original design was similar to a sailing ship with the implementation of magic into the sails for flight. After many attempts at this design, it wasn't nearly as feasible as it might have been in the Age of the Arcane when magic was a little more free flowing in the world. The current design still uses the sail ship design, but with a blimp like structure that houses large amounts of arcane energy to keep it aloft. These airships all have a mage on board to maintain this flow of energy in order to raise and lower the ship into and out of the skies.

Social Impact

While only the wealthy could originally afford to travel by air, it has become more accessible to all. This helped to bridge a gap in social status, as the wealthy were now having to use the same travel as the poor. As the ability to own private airships became available, less of the wealthy would use public airships and began to use their own private airships.

Inventor(s)

Unknown. The original documentation doesn't have a name, or it is illegible, so no one can be credited for the original design. The invention of the working airship goes to group of artificers and mages that worked together to make it happen. Bryn Buell, Shadya Botros, Elwin Arastina, Theodoric Underhill, and Caramella Knotwise.

Access & Availability

Airships are available to most of the public. There are large transportation airships that only go between the large major cities that have ports that allow for them. However, not all towns allow for large passenger airships to land in or near them, as they don't have a space for them. Some people do make their own private airships that might be allowed to go to more of the smaller towns, but there is still limitations to that accessibility.

Complexity

While most airships have a straight forward design, some have a more complex design for just one passenger, or possibly a few. The complexity of these varies with their creator. Large passenger airships all have very similar simplistic designs, artificers that have made one for their own personal use might have one that is extremely complex so that no one else can operate it, except them. Many nobles have artificers design more complex airships for their own personal use for that reason.

Discovery

Initial designs were made during the Age of the Arcane. Many of these designs were discovered during excavations in several of the ruined cities from the Age of the Arcane scared across the world.
