Golden Lands
Land of riches and blood
The Golden Lands is the smallest of the three major continents of Arda. Akin to a large island, it is set between the Golden Sea to the west, the Dragon Sea to the east, the Amaranthine Sea and the Ice Floes to the north.
The Golden Lands are a primarily temperate region which features woods, moors, plains, fjords, but are most remarkable for its mountains which comprises much for the western half of the continent. These mountains are rich in mineral deposits, namely gold. Despite the continent's general prosperity and abundance in gold, the land is actually named after the Golden Sea, the Golden Lands being the first land found beyond its waters. The eastern half of the continent are mostly low rolling plains and swamps, ideal for agricultural and pastoral work that supplies the peoples of the Golden Lands with food and wool.
There are three nations in the Golden Lands - the Golden Mountain, the Golden Khanate, and Dunlain. In early history, dwarven refugees from the Romanoran Empire settled in the western mountainous regions of the Golden Lands, and became wealthy and powerful from the riches within the mountain. After the Last of the Primordial Wars, orcs came to settle in the western northern portions of the Golden Lands, making up a second nation, the Golden Khanate. There, the orcs came into almost constant conflict with the local dwarves over the resource-rich mountains. Over time, the dwarves bolstered their numbers by importing human settlers to the Golden Mountain. However, many of the human settlers were frequently treated as second-class citizens or worse by the local dwarves, being seen only as little better than the orcs they fought. After years of abuse, many of the humans revolted or outright left the dwarven cities for search of a better life. They came to settle in the lowland plains in the southern and eastern region of the Golden Lands, forming the nation of Dunlain.
