The Elves awake on the shores of Cuivienen in North East Endor

The Elves awoke on the shores of Cuivienen in the North East, calling themselves the Quendi as they alone had the power of speech. Morgoth found them first and taught them to fear the Valar. Orome found them next, and together with Yvanna convinced the other Valar of the threat Morgoth posed to the Elves. He had already recruited / stolen some and twisted them into Orcs in the breeding pits of Utumno. Other elves who escaped complete corruption were still changed and unable to return to the surface, so they carved new worlds for themselves under the rock.
