Dianna Beth

Princess Dianna Beth

First daughter to King Bethraal Beth and Queen Pallas of Graunt   Princess Dianna was betrothed to Harreon Elkwood, but vanished at seventeen years of age. All nine of the Chief Justicar's men were sent out in search of her: Sir Cadrick Fields never returned, and Sir Iigor Sirtal returned dead in Sir Wullen Paddox' arms. The other six would come back with neither princess nor answers.   It was fully two years before Dianna returned, seemingly of her own accord. It was said King Bethraal nearly collapsed upon seeing her and had to be taken away, while Queen Pallas interrogated her as she was cleaned and fed, the wounds and weariness of the wild attended by Arinna, the healer that had helped her survive a precarious infancy.   Harreon Elkwood had been married to a Fawn in the intervening years. Some quiet attempts were made to find Dianna another husband, but they were refused. It was then the Princess expressed her desire to become a speller. She had shown no interest in the practice before now, but under the tutelage of her aunt, the Princess Lianna, she would quickly excel at the art. Before her twenty-fifth year, Princess Dianna requested a place as first speller to the Graunts at Saolmoth. Being a princess, and her mother being a Graunt besides, she was quickly accepted.   During the Third Brothers Rebellion, it was widely believed that Dianna had died under mysterious circumstances. Ermengarda of Felissar, who would become the first Royal Wizard in an age, suggested she had been murdered by a sorceress, or possibly by evil magics perpetrated by Prince Ruark Redeye. It would later be discovered that Princess Dianna had simply disappeared again. In her absence, she was replaced as First Speller by Ariana Haust. When Dianna at last returned, not long before the start of the Fourth Brothers Rebellion, she and Ariana served as equals until the Princess' death in 96 RA, at the age of fifty-one. She is said to have drowned in the River Nightfall, though some suspect she may have simply disappeared again, and where she went during the Third Brothers Rebellion remains unknown to this day. The speller Ariana Haust would herself disappear less than a year later, leading many to suspect foul play.
