Canmar Desert
The Canmar Desert is a rocky desert located on the Maenorian Plateau in the northwest of Balukthur. It is of a considerable size, and much of the ground consists of mudstone and sandstone. The region is most well known for its export of Maenorian clay, a high-quality clay that comes in a variety of unique natural colors that can be found on the eastern sides of the plateau. It is also well known for a unique rock in the region called smokestone, a rock that can absorb smoke until it is saturated.
Geography
The geography of the Canmar Desert is very deceiving. This is because it appears to be relatively typical of a rocky desert, but many of its irregularities come from underground formations. Specifically, the caverns. Due to the geological processes that formed the plateau upon which the desert lies, massive cave systems can be found underneath most of the desert. In spite of the dry nature of the surface, many of the caves are connected by subterranean rivers that provide both a water source and discrete transportation across the plateau. These caverns are home to the majority of the country of Maenor.
Fauna & Flora
The wildlife within the Canmar desert is relatively standard for its climate and ecosystem. The most commonly found creatures being reptiles of one variety or another. Others include varieties of toads, coyotes, jackrabbits, and other such mundane animals. As for the more spectacular, wyverns, some varieties of dragons, and other monsters that would be expected in that climate.
The plant life is far more unusual. Aboveground, the plant life is normal. However, this changes when one travels into the many underground caverns found there. Down there, one can find exotic fruits such as clapaya, pulasan, and laris fruit, all of which can only be found in these caverns.
Natural Resources
The Canmar Desert is well known for a number of natural resources that can be found within the region. The most well-known is Maenorian clay, a high-quality clay that naturally comes in a number of unique and vibrant colors. It is also a key ingredient in a recently developed form of concrete that is far stronger than its counterparts. The other main natural resource of the region is that of smokestone, which is used to absorb smoke from fires underground in Maenor.
