Thulstoric Acid

Thulstoric Acid is a special type of nontraditional acid that is coveted by many alchemists for its versatility and rarity. It was invented by Thulstor Lorei, a Morduinian dwarf. While it has many different alchemical uses, it is most famous for its seemingly unique ability to dissolve Morduinian steel into a nearly undetectable gas.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Thulstoric Acid is a perfectly translucent liquid with a very low viscosity. It is almost completely scentless, smelling only vaguely of lemon water.

Physical & Chemical Properties

This unique acid is most well known for its ability to completely dissolve Morduinian steel into an undetectable gas. However, it can also be used in a variety of other alchemical processes. It is one of the strongest acids currently known, but it only reacts with certain specific materials, melting through them with ease. However, it has absolutely no effect on anything else. One of the more unique items through which it can melt is most known varieties of glass. Because of this, containers of the metal are usually either crystal resembling glass or a small number of different metals. It does not appear to be corrosive to most types of organic material.

Compounds

Some alchemical compounds in which Thulstoric Acid is used are Universal Solvent, magically resistant fluids, and also in the process of refining mana.

Life & Expiration

Thulstoric Acid does decay until it is no longer usable, but the conditions under which this happens are relatively unique. It needs to be kept around some source of arcane power for it to feed on in order for it to remain potent. This expiration requires, on average, approximately one week without ambient magical radiation in the area for it to fully decay. This condition is actually rather difficult outside of antimagic fields due to the sheer commonality of magic, however mundane it may be.

History & Usage

History

Unlike many other materials and items, the distribution and usage of Thulstoric Acid has remained relatively consistent throughout history.

Discovery

Thulstoric Acid was discovered by the Morduinian chemist Thulstor Lorei accidentally, as many chemical innovations are, while he was attempting to synthesize basilisk saliva.

Everyday use

The acid is not used in daily life at all, due to its rarity and dangerous capabilities. The only people with general access to the acid are

Industrial Use

This acid, when not used in conjunction with Morduinian Steel, is generally used as an ingredient in substances and materials designed to mitigate the effects of magic in certain scenarios. The most common of these materials are arcane containment vessels and in the current research of antimagic gas for military use.

Hazards

The main hazards of this material do not include bodily harm to nonmagical individuals. However, dependent on the concentration and mixture that the acid is in, it can either corrode the skin of magical creatures and magic users, or it can temporarily dampen their ability to use magic.
