Dream Tether

A spell created by the Flamellen scholar, anthropologist, and oneiromancer Lillyanna du Foux, Dream Tether began for her as a theoretical possibility. In 1202 ATC however, due to her understanding of a demiplane of slumber called The Dreamstate, she would perfect this spell in the hopes that it might help The Hunting Party track down and destroy their enemy.
Dream Tether allows an oneiromancer to send one or more willing creatures into the Dreamstate via a connection between the caster and a slumbering vessel. Maintaining concentration on the spell, as well as physical connection between the vessel, the oneiromancer, and those they wish to send into the demiplane is paramount to the spell achieving its desired effect. Such magic is the only known method of entering the Dreamstate as no known tuning fork or gate exists to lead others into this realm.

Mental weakness with prolonged concentration. Failing the spell may incur psychic damage to its caster or the slumbering vessel.

Manifestation

As the proper connection is made and the spell manifests, a slowly revolving magic circle surrounds those involved in the transportation to the Plane of Slumber. For those projected into the Dreamstate via this spell, it has been described as being "sucked into a hole" for a brief moment before entering an undulating and unsteady facsimile of the Prime Material Plane. For most, seeing their physical forms still "on the other side" feels very much like an out-of-body experience.

Discovery

Dream Tether was first incepted and used by its own practitioner, Lillyanna du Foux, the very scholar who is credited as first to truly "discover" The Dreamstate. The spell was first used far from Lillyanna's homeland of Flamelle, in the eastern archipelago of Kyokai during her travels. The village of Yamakaze on the northernmost island of Terawa had been plagued by nightmares as several villagers had gone missing and were mysterious slain by an unseen force. Theorizing that they were being murdered in their nightmares, and thus somehow murdered outside of their dreams, Lillyanna provided The Hunting Party who had arrived in the village, her aid in traveling to The Dreamstate where she believed the villagers were truly being hunted and attacked from. Their quest into the demiplane was a success, and thus became the first example of a successful Dream Tether spell.
