The Dreamstate

The Dreamstate is a demiplane that exists parallel to the Prime Material Plane. Little is known of this mysterious space, despite how nearly all living creatures that slumber experience The Dreamstate to one extent or another. This plane is marked at its surface level as a catalyst for every living being's dreams or nightmares to be conjured from its essence. This surface-level experience is how most creatures perceive the Plane of Slumber. However with the right magic and understanding, one can travel to the Dreamstate and interact with it on a deeper level, and even influence or interact with those slumbering on the other side of existence in the Prime Material Plane. It is due to this nature, however, that those few who truly understand the Dreamstate provide information on how to travel there with great caution.

Geography

This demiplane is marked as a parallel, or rather, a mirror of its Prime Material Plane. All of its geography and physical features are a direct copy of what is experienced in the World of the Waking. The effect on perception, however, while venturing through the Dreamstate, is known to warp, ripple, and undulate the world around the travel. Though its features are recognizable and familiar, it feels unsteady, fluid, and unsure--a reflection of the quality of dreams as a whole.

Fauna & Flora

Little is known of the organisms that are natural to the Dreamstate. There are mirror copies of all the animals and creatures found within the Prime Material Plane, however this demiplane does indeed have its own natural inhabitants--namely the Shades that glide about the realm. Their intelligence and purpose is largely a mystery, though it is known that they can effect the minds of those who venture into their realm, for better or for worse.

History

This demiplane's discovery was effectively made in the year 1196 ATC by Flamellen scholar and anthropologist, Lillyanna du Foux. As a hobby, her interest in Oneiromancy unknowingly granted her insight and eventually access to the Dreamstate, and some of its secrets. Quickly understanding how potentially harmful it could be to catalog the methods in which one might travel to the Dreamstate due to its inherent connection to the Prime Material Plane (and the slumbering inhabitants therein), she made the decision to keep her monumental discoveries a closely guarded secret.
It would not be until six years later in 1202 ATC, however, that she would discover she was not the only Oneiromancer with an awareness of the Dreamstate. Lillyanna, during this time, would also perfect her own theoretical magic--a spell she dubbed Dream Tether--allowing her to send other creatures into the Dreamstate via a connection between herself and a slumbering subject.
