Akinuid Empire (uh-KIN-oo-ihd)
The Akinuid Empire was founded by a powerful catfolk warlord named Brethian in 3141 YGR. It is certainly the most famous of Estemar's predecessor states. Lasting until 4458 YGR, it controlled most of modern-day Narum. Only the jungles west of the Balimar Highlands remained out of their grasp. The Akinuid capital in Seradhur, sacked in 4401 YGR by insurgent Taqqadiyan forces, is one of Argea's ancient wonders. Archeologists claim Seradhur sported dozens of hanging gardens and impressive stoneworks. Now, however, the erstwhile capital lies below the modern Estemarian capital, Virezzo.
The Empire collapsed in 4458 YGR at the hands of Taqqadiyan rebels when they burned the last Akinuid Emperor at the stake in Mujawir. The bloody Taqqadiyan Insurgency left long-lasting scars: the Holy Kingdom of Estemar and the Sultanate of Taqqadiya have very strained relations to this day.
Demography and Population
The Akinuid population included all the cultures and ancestries native to modern Taqqadiya and Estemar. Catfolk, humans, lizardfolk, gnomes, halflings, gnolls, and ratfolk were a common sight throughout the Empire.
Territories
At its height, the Akinuid Empire stretched from the east coast of Narum to the Balimar Highlands and all lands in between. Porton in modern-day Estemar was the northernmost boundary of the Empire.
