Appointment
In Alandr, the role of monarch is hereditary. The oldest son (or daughter if there are no sons) automatically assumes the throne once the previous monarch dies. While the new monarch may officially assume the duties of king or queen, the realm holds a coronation ceremony as well. The head of the Church of Ilíos, also known as the Acting Lord Lantern, places the crown on the head of the new monarch and reads passages from scripture.
Duties
The King/Queen of Alandr is the commander-in-chief of all Alandran military personnel and militias, head of the Church of Ilíos, and the supreme judge and magistrate of all courts.
Responsibilities
On a day-to-day basis, the King/Queen meets with petitioners selected by members of their royal court, the royal court themselves, and any individuals they may have personally requested to see.

Shoulders | Deep red velvet cloak with gold embroidery along the edges depicting the lion of Ilíos. The back of the cloak pictures the crest of Alandr. The base of the cloak is dyed yellow and orange, giving the entire ensemble the look of a cloak of fire. |
Chest | A brightly colored tunic (gold, emerald green, red, or purple) embroidered with gold or silver thread or a breastplate made of polished steel and adorned with royal jewels. |
Waist | A light brown leather scabbard engraved with lions, mountains, and eagles. Inside the scabbard: the royal sword--Caedisbane. |
Legs | Fine, dull-colored cloth pants with gold or silver embroidery. |
Feet | Fine leather boots or cloth shoes, depending on the circumstances. |
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
The monarch of Alandr cannot be dismissed.
