King Simon Athelard

King Richard VI ascended to the throne of Alandr on the 22nd of Midwinter, 1098 YGP after the death of his father, King William VI, the day before. He was coronated by Acting Lord Lantern Bastian Rask in the Iron Hall on the 15th of Sowing, 1099 YGP. Lord Lantern Rask quoted the following passage from the Radiant Dawn:

Book 3, verses 119-123: "As the protectors of Ilíos' light, those ancient kings in Alteria gather an added measure of power from His light. Only by righteous dominion may His light be administered. By His word, the kings gather glory unto themselves. Should a beknighted king of Alteria stray from the path of the light, his power shall diminish measure by measure until his light is extinguished altogether."

He was born Simon of House Athelard and was awarded the Princedom of Gray's Vigil at birth. As the oldest son of King William VI and Queen Consort Loretta Stanshire of Seascale, he was groomed to succeed his father.
Upon his coronation, King Richard VI announced a program of adventure patronage. As part of this program, local administrators are encouraged to hire adventurers and mercenaries to fix local problems.
The king is a known patron of the arts. He especially enjoys sponsoring authors and researchers of history, culture, and science. He can often be found perusing the vast library in the Iron Hall.

Born Simon of House Athelard to King William VI of Alandr and Queen Consort Loretta Stanshire of Seascale. As the oldest son, Richard VI was groomed from a young age to inherit his father's throne and titles. Throughout his childhood, Simon was largely unassuming and free of drama. He got along well with the court, his parents, and his siblings. Without complicating problems, Simon's ascension to the throne after William VI's death was flawless.

Education

Simon (now Richard VI) was educated by university professors from the King's College campus of Runeshrine University in Edmund's Bridge. He was instructed in the traditional courses: history, mathematics, science, religion, and politics. In addition to his formal schooling, Simon learned how to govern by shadowing his father.
