Sven Varsson
Sven Varsson (a.k.a. The Champion of the North)
Background
Sven grew up in the town of Breenhammer. He heard many tales of bravery, conflict and heroes, including the great battle of Ragnarok that took place at Vingård, not too far from his home. He was inspired by these tales, and wanted to become one of these fabled heroes.
He loved to reenact these stories with his friends, using odds and ends that he could find as weapons and “spells” to fight among each other. At times he would get carried away and accidentally hurt his friends in these mock battles.
As he grew older, he started participating in bar brawls, some formal some informal, due to his desire to fight and his immense cockiness.
He ended up catching the eye of a visitor to Breenhammer named Stoan Taf, who was impressed by his skills,. Over time, Sven learned the way of the barbarian from Stoan. Sven continued on his journey with Stoan’s help by starting to join real fighting competitions. Sven started local, and as his prowess increased, he was able to join larger and larger tournaments, moving from Breenhammer to Trondheim, and then moving south to Plyndflot and Korolevia. He participated in one tournament in Gronndal, the hometown of Stoan, facing off against Stoan himself, and coming out victorious.
Shortly after this, Stoan got in a terrible accident close to Gronndal, and committed himself adventuring in order to gain insight into his own problems. He left Sven with his own dueling cape (relic) to remember him by.
Because of Sven’s successes, he is known as Champion of the North (at least to those in the north who care about fighting, mostly due to the fact that its self-proclaimed and he yells “I AM THE CHAMPION OF THE NORTH” after each of his fights).
When Sven heard of the bounty for Kugarin and his Dragonknights, he knew this was his chance to get his own entry in the history books and the tales told to the next generation of kids. In addition to this, Sven had heard rumors that his old mentor Stoan had been turned into a copper dragon through nefarious means. He hoped to find more information about this by questioning those who knew of these dragons, and possibly the dragons themselves.
Other Information
Sven is not religious in the slightest. He believes that all the great feats that have been accomplished in the world have been brought about through mans own power, and he puts his faith in himself and a select few that he grows to know and trust.
Most of Sven’s gear, especially his gear that has magical qualities have come from dueling competitions that he was won. Either through official prizes or through betting against the other fighters to win their gear.
Sven is fairly close to his own parents and his brother and sister, but he grew very attached to Stoan while he was his mentor, and sees him as family as well. He also has been traveling quite a bit recently for dueling, so he hasn’t had very frequent contact with his family, but he doesn’t have any negative feelings towards them. He has no current romantic attachments, but he has been known to get his fair share of women as he has traveled to duel.
As with Stoan, Sven has learned to love the art of drinking, and knows his stuff when it comes to alcohol. He even feels that he isn’t at the height of his fighting prowess unless he has a drink or two in him.
