Summer Solstice Sage Sprint
An annual event sponsored by and held at Library Inn on Crossroads Island. This annual event is how members and students of the United Guild of Scribes, Calligraphers, Illuminators, and Engravers (UGSCIE) earn their placement in the guild and thereby how much they are allowed to charge according to their skill and seniority.
History
The first Solstice Sprint -- or Midnight Marathon, as it's known among the participants -- was hosted at Library Inn to celebrate it's grand repurposing as a library, inn, and school for scribes. (The school was eventually moved out of the old palace into newly constructed facilities within the castle walls and was renamed the Capitalla University of Arts and Literature.)
Execution
Held on the Summer Solstice, the celebrations begins with the official welcoming ceremony at noon.
Three hours before noon, breakfast is served. Traditionally, it is a feast of hearty foods such as flavored sausages, thick slices of pork belly, steaks of both ham and beef, eggs prepared every way imaginable, hearty stewed oats with fruit preserves, thick hotcakes drenched in syrup, fruits, muffins, pastries, breads. Anything that will sustain a body through a long day and a short night filled with activities.
Participants
Participation is open to all members in good standing of the UGSCIE, and is encouraged at all levels.
