Koffee Shrub
A plant native to Oposs. It has recently gained popularity for the berries it produces. When consumed, the berries have a stimulating effect, reinvigorating tired travelers and students. The natives of Oposs enjoyed drinking the juice and brewing it into spirits. The berries spoil rapidly, so trading them across the sea was uncommon.
The plant itself is a shrub that grows to about shoulder height in optimal conditions. Its branches are covered in white flowers, that when pollinated develop into bright red berries. The berries are very sweet.
Many efforts were made in an attempt to preserve the berries for longer amounts of time, most failed. But one solution was found. It was discovered that the seed also has the same stimulating effect as the berries, to an even higher degree. The seeds were roasted to preserve them longer, and shipped across the sea.
Initially, the seeds were simply consumed in this roasted form. But as some tried boiling the seeds, it was discovered that the seeds dilute into the water in a way similar to tea. The beverage is also known as koffee-brew or koffee for short.
