The Power of Shadow
Umbrys is the power of shadow, wielded by the Umbralti population in the lost queendom of Umbralta.
It's power is bestowed from the Vode Crista.
Manifestation
Drawing shadow from both the nearby surroundings and from the aether itself, shadow power manifests as tangible darkness. Snake or tendril-like in its form, Umbryssal Shadow is amorphous and malleable, much like water; however, it can tangibly affect solid objects and manipulate the senses of others. The wielder's body vibrates in harmony with the shadow and can even become one with it, disappearing and reappearing at will.
On rare occasions, the ability to summon the Void occurs in practiced wielders. The Void is from where the shadow draws its power - from the dark matter of the universal fabric itself. There, Voidine may manipulate space-time.
Examples of Voidine Power
Invisibility and Concealment: Shadow magic can allow a character to blend into the darkness, becoming invisible or nearly invisible. This can be useful for stealth missions, escaping from enemies, or spying. Teleportation: A character could use shadow magic to travel between shadows, allowing them to move quickly and unseen from one place to another. Shadow Constructs: Creating solid objects or creatures out of shadows that can be used for combat, defense, or various tasks. These constructs might have special abilities related to darkness or fear. Manipulating Emotions: Shadows could be used to induce fear, confusion, or other negative emotions in others, making it easier to manipulate or incapacitate them. Dreamwalking: Entering and influencing the dreams of others through shadows, either to gather information, plant ideas, or cause psychological harm. Shadow Binding: Using shadows to bind or immobilize enemies, making it difficult for them to move or escape. Illusions: Creating shadowy illusions to deceive or distract opponents, making them see things that aren't there or hide things that are. Energy Draining: Draining energy, vitality, or life force from others by enveloping them in shadows, weakening them over time. Shadow Healing: Using shadows to heal wounds or ailments, possibly by drawing out poison or negative energy and replacing it with restorative darkness. Divination: Using shadows to see into the past, present, or future, or to scry distant places and events. Enhanced Senses: Granting a character enhanced vision, hearing, or other senses in the dark, making them formidable in low-light conditions. Necromancy: Using shadows to communicate with or raise the dead, binding their spirits or bodies to the caster's will. Shadow Puppetry: Controlling others by manipulating their shadows, forcing them to move and act against their will. Shadow Armor: Creating protective armor or shields made of shadows that can absorb or deflect attacks. Time Manipulation: Using shadows to slow down or speed up time within a certain area, giving the caster a tactical advantage. Portal Creation: Opening portals to other dimensions or realms through shadows, allowing for interdimensional travel or summoning creatures from other worlds.Localization
Because the Voidine were killed or scattered with the fall of Umbralta, Umbrys is only to be found in ancient texts and folk stories. Additionally, no one has been able to locate the Vode Crista since Queen Lucidae's conquering of Umbralta, and therefore no one has been blessed with its power for centuries.
Umbrys can be used anywhere on the continent, and works best in dispersed or low light conditions.
