in Cultures of Arkanis

There are five "magics" that manifest in the Arkanis general population:

• Lumys - the power of light
• Umbrys - the power of shadow
• Aquarys - the power of water
• Ignys - the power of fire
• Terrys - the power of earth

Wielders of the magic, known by their magic classification or simply as "the Chosen", are seen as important assets to each queendom's governance and the law and order of the land.   Each magic originates from the presence of crista - crystals - which are physical manifestations of the power of the land and have the ability to pass on these magical abilities to the Chosen few. Though no one is certain exactly how some people are Chosen and some are not, scientists suspect some sort of genetic variation or mutation allows for the manifestation of the magic in those born in the regions of particular crista.
