House Venture
House Venture is currently one of the oldest dynasties on the whole continent of arkion, stretching back all the way into The Final Empire. At that time, their influence is said to have reached much further than it does today. During the fall of the last empire, the Venture family also suffered greatly and disappeared from the seats of power for several centuries. However they resurfaced once more around 354 ac slowly rebuilding their strength, and consolidating their power. Although they have never achieved the power they had in their heyday, they still hold considerable influence and military capabilities.
In the Year 653 ac. (post Cataclysm) The family de Venture already held claim to multiple barony's surrounding their territory, and with the support of Count Farlier, they took over the stretch of land between the Blackstone Mountainrange and the coastal provinces to the west. After a successful military campaign house venture climbed the noble ladder once more and founded the Duchy de Venture .
The Baharuthan Invasion
Under Straff van Baharuth the empire yearned for a connection to the southern Coast with direct access to the Golf de Laplace, without having to cross the Red Zone in the Eastern Sea. After multiple campaigns against the Elves that ended in defeat Straff decided to gain access to the south by taking over the Duchy de Venture. The empires legions were met by harsh resistance especially by the troops of House Venture but after 8 long years of fighting the duchy was simply too exhausted by the war and submitted to The Baharuth Empire. Throughout the occupation, House Venture remained responsible for most matters in the duchy. Only the mining operations of Black Iron had to be stopped and general control of military decisions were handed over to the Empire.
Reclaiming Independence
At all times during occupation House Venture did not sit idle, they were granted a seat in the council of the empire and were very active politically.
In the following years the empire repaired its relationship with both the union and the elves and a new era of peace ensued. Through outstanding diplomatic vigor and pressure from an unknown source, the Emperor then decided to gift the Duchy its Independence in exchange for certain trade privileges. Furthermore with the invention of airships the empire did not need direct sea access in the south that desperately.
