Illuminite

Illuminite is the name given to the material constituting the Golden Tears that fell onto Solanus during the Night of Golden Tears and afterwards. While the actual crystal-like substance is relatively harmless on its own, it acts as a casing for the primordial light energy that resides within. This light is capable of bringing imbalance and physical malformation and corrruption to any living thing it comes into contact with. The land itself where illuminite resides can become warped overtime, the soil becoming barren and lifeless and the weather shifting to an eternal daylight. Once a creature has absorbed the primordial energy from the Illuminite, they become the host and manifestor of the corruption in that area. These poor, mentally manipulated creatures have become commonly referred to as 'The Illuminated.'
The golden tears are supposedly summoned to Arkos as an imperfect means of balancing the mortal realm after the dark return of Nex during The Kindling.
