Ratmen

Similar to Kobolds, ratmen as a race are said to have originated in the Underdark. The earliest account of Ratmen civilization or "tribes" dates back to the second age, when the Great Primordials controlled much of Arkos. The ratmen, alongside the kobolds and other minor beast races, acted as the Primordials' servants and infantry (often not by choice). After the Primordials were slain by the Cosmic Council, the ratmen scattered, either fleeing back into the Underdark or surviving in rural communities or outside of major cities, often feeding on scraps and leftovers.
Presently, the largest Ratmen prescence on Western Arkos is in Scandia, as the Halflings are aware of tribes of Ratmen lving amongst and underneath them. While some act as scavengers, they generally have a decent relationship with the halflings, even acting as couriers or explorers of possible underground trade routes.
Other socieities, such as Oreion or Paxmal, view Ratmen as nothing more than vile beasts, that serve no other purpose than to carry disease and steal.
