Guldari, God of War and Honor (Gool-dar-ay)

Guldari, the human God of War and Honor, is misunderstood by most humans, even his followers and sometimes even his priesthood and paladins who often believe that Guldari is a bloodthirsty god who desires war. Instead Guldari's teachings call the soldier to be a servant and protector of his country, called to courage, and willing to sacrifice his life with honor if needed. An Ascended god, Guldari appeared and rose to prominence among humans during the War of the Mages.   Guldari takes direct actions and uses unsophisticated methods to resolve problems, usually, but not exclusively, involving combat. The word Guldari means "duty", or in some references "valor" in the old human language.   The followers of Guldari follow a warrior's code known as "Guldari's Way". Guldari has a simple approach to the complex relationships that exist between the family of the Ascended human gods. With Sinhala, he is frequently in admiration and fiercely protective. His relationship with Melandru is cordial, respectful and understanding, but not close. Unlike his relationship to Sinhala, Guldari will not move to protect Melandru unless specifically requested by the godess, though he does not hesitate to extend his protection to her when asked. Guldari has taken an active dislike to Isvaida who he sees as manuipulative and decietful - both traits that he abhors.   Guldari is closest to Gemar, God of Death, who is the god with whom he shares common values of duty, mindfulness, responsibility and self-sacrifice. Guldari calls his followers to exhibit these in life, and Gemar judges the lives of men with respect to these values in death.   Rumors abound regarding Guldari's origins. Humans believe that the Ascended were once mortals who transformed or ascended to godhood. While Guldari arose to prominence during the period of the War of the Mages, it is not clear that he ascended to godhood during that period. No one, with the exception of Gemar, knows who he was originally. It is generally agreed that he was certainly a soldier though no one seems to know if he was a lowly foot soldier or general officer. If asked of his origins, he says "I am the fury in the soldiers heart, the strength to live when a man's death is upon him. All other names die on the battlefield when valor is born."   Gemar is arguably the only one who knows Guldari's original name except for the god himself. When asked, Gemar consistently replies with some form of "It is not my place to answer that question. Go ask Valor."

Guldari's Way

I am a Warrior.   I serve with my fellow warriors in service to my country.   I will always place the mission first.   I will obey the lawful commands of my superior officers.   I will never accept defeat or quit.   I will never leave a fallen comrade behind while he lives.   I am disciplined, physically and mentally tough, trained and proficient in the skills of warfare.   I always maintain my arms, my equipment and myself.   I am an expert and I am a professional.   I will not use my skills of war for my own selfish motives, nor against the helpless who offer no threat.   I stand ready to deploy, engage, and destroy the enemies of my nation, in close combat, in peril or possible sacrifice of my life.
