Alin (AH-lin)

A grace that begets a endless desire for conflict.

The Alin are a race of unicorn-esque, highly-skilled warriors. The etiquette they display among themselves is shown in their graceful fighting styles, leaning more for elegance than pragmatism.   Physical Description: Alins have varied stature as much as humans do in they can be lean or wide, and share ears similar to elves. They have slanted eyes, with odd black tendrils within their sclera being a noticeable feature of their eyes. Their skin tone vary in slightly saturated color between red, pink, purple, indigo, blue, and green, their hair often being a darker matching color. One of their most telling features is their large singular unicorn horn on their forehead which require extensive care and are painful to have broken. They possess a long tail with horse hair at the end of it that releases a dander off of it. The alin species' tails grow throughout their life endlessly, for females the tail is naturally larger which results in slight dominance as a larger and stronger tail results in a stronger alin. If the tail is constantly well groomed it's growth can speed up tremendously.

Society: A society of warriors who live in small city states, they often do not mingle unless their loyalty is earned by a noble. Instead, alin follow commander-in-chiefs that control both military and diplomatic relations, though is not a sole leader, also having clan leaders in city states as well and a sage. The commander-in-chief is chosen based on a variety of factors. The main of which is their strength and their-- due to the requirements of their position-- wit. Anytime an outside force threatens their states, they rally forth the greatest warriors to drive them back, usually with deadly efficiency. Otherwise alin are a fairly civilized race despite being bred for war. Because an alin's tail size is affected by grooming and proper care, large tails are considered a sign of nobility or proper training.   Relations: Alin don't often make relations outside of alin city states unless their loyalty is gained by a nearby royal or noble through an act of heroism or constant mercantile trade. In which case the Command-in-chief offers protection to the proven individual, this constantly puts them at odds with Chao Wei and other mercenary races, or any mercenary group they deem reckless or without style. Religious relations are almost entirely handled by the sage. Alin nobles constantly argue and fight among each other in secret for good graces with the commander-in-chiefs.   Alignment and Religion: Alin vary in morals, some stick to the law while others prefer justice at the cost of order and foundation. And some even turn to traitorous means. Alin are usually of any alignment. Religion among alin is usually led solely by a Sage, Alin Sage's are special alin with a change in their body that make them a new variation of alin known as Maned Alin. The Sage is both a religious leader and a prophet who warns other alin of their divinations, even commander-in-chiefs follow these closely and commonly try to keep counsel with a Sage.   Adventurers: Alin can commonly be seen as adventurers since many wish to prove their ability to the world in duels and tournaments in the world. As such they make good allies in combat and gladiators.

Standard Racial Traits

  • Ability Score Racial Traits: Alin are dexterous fighters and charming individuals but sometimes seem to lack common sense. They gain +2 Dexterity, +2 Charisma, and -2 Wisdom.
  • Type: Alin are humanoids with the alin subtype.
  • Size: Alin are Medium creatures and thus receive no bonuses or penalties due to their size.
  • Base Speed: Alins have a base speed of 30 feet.
  • Languages: Alins begin play speaking Common and Draconic. Alin with high Intelligence scores can choose any languages they want (except secret languages, such as Druidic). See the Linguistics skill page for more information about these languages.
Feat and Skill Racial Traits
  • Bonus Combat Feat: Alins select one extra combat feat at 1st level.
  • Militaristic: Alin always treat Knowledge (Martial) and Perform as class skills.
Offense Racial Traits
  • Alin Horn: Alins have a Gore natural attack that deals 1d6 damage, they however receive 1 nonlethal damage on a successful attack with it. Their horn counts as adamantine and possess hardness 20. If the horn is broken the Alin is stunned for 1d3 rounds.
  • Weapon Familiarity: Alin are proficient with all weapons from the heavy blades and light blades weapon groups.
  • Born Fighter: Alin treat their BAB as their Fighter class level for the purposes of feats and feat requirements.
Defense Racial Traits
  • Poison Resistant: Alin receive a +2 racial bonus on saves against poison due to being use to getting poisoned from coup d'etats between nobles.
Sense Racial Traits
  • Low-Light Vision: Alins can see twice as far as normal in conditions of dim light.

Maned (CR +varies)

  Alin have a sub-species known as Maned Alins. These alins can be born or grown into, and are alin who have a lion-like mane that extends all the way down their spine and tail, their tails grow far faster and they obtain far sight powers. Maned alins commonly end up as a Sage due to their inherit ability and grow overall and proportionally larger.

Maned is a template that can be added to any alin that is not already maned. A maned alin retains all the base creature’s statistics and special abilities except as noted here.   CR: Same as the base creature + 2   Type: A maned alin's size is either medium or large. Large maned alin's CR increase by an additional +1 and gain the benefits and detriments that come with size advancement.   Special Qualities and Defenses: A maned alin gains darkvision 60 feet.   Special Abilities: A maned alin get a +2 racial bonus to caster level to divination spells. Maned alin with a Charisma score of 11 or higher also gain the following spell-like abilities: 1/day—Detect Poison, Linked Legacy, Anticipate Peril. Maned alin with a Charisma score of 18 or higher also gain the following spell-like abilities: 1/day—Akashic Communion, Legend Lore. The caster level for these spell-like abilities is equal to the alin’s level.   Abilities: Increase from the base creature as follows: +4 Con, +4 Wis and +4 Cha.
