Imperial Didact

The first defense against tyranny

"She made me the Didact, and I dont know if it is because she trusts me or not..." - Indi, Didact to Empress Suraya
The power of an empire carries with it the power to dominate and the power to unite. What stops the empire of Erodel from ruling over its people with an Iron grip,is 'The Aegis', and its leader: The Didact.

Qualifications

The Didact must complete military training and a full tour of duty, including specialized training in Special Operations. Once they have completed their military training, they enter another round of specialized training for the royal guard, as well as education in the beliefs, philosophies, and cultures of the Artheros people. Their final round of training is known only to the royal family and the trainers involved. Failing to complete any part of this intense training will result in immediate expulsion.

Appointment

The occupant of this rank is personally chosen by the emperor or empress, usually a close friend, sibling, or qualifying high-ranking military officer. The current holder of the rank remains in the position until the death of the ruler, at which point another person is chosen by the new ruler.

Duties

The Didact must be at the ruler's side at all times unless dismissed. They are also responsible for staying up to date on all of the empire's clandestine operations. As Commander of 'The Aegis,' they must choose the five other acting members. The Didact must be present for all official political meetings. In the absence of the Emperor or Empress, they become the interim ruler. The final and most important duty of the Didact is to watch over the Emperor or Empress. If they are seen to be acting in a way that is not in the best interest of the empire, the Didact has the authority to call a vote and seize power from the ruler.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

The Didact can only be dismissed by the Emperor or Empress. Unless said ruler is not acting with the best interests of the Empire in mind. The only other way out of their office is death.
