The Great War
The Great War, also called the War of the Clans, was a bloody conflict that followed the death of the previous emperor when no clear successor was found.
Three cousins of the Emperor all had equal claims to the throne and rallied different clans under their banner and when the vote on who to crown Emperor came back as a draw tension rose.
It wasn't long before the Lion seized control of the capital in an attempt to force the vote their way, Yoshimune however escaped with the aid of the Crane clan.
Even though the Lion Clan seized control of the capital early on in the war and had the Phoenix clan pushed back to their capital, the combined forces of Yoshimune's army were successful in spearheading an assault on the capital. While many names have become famous in this war, the Crane Samurai Doji Kenosuke, who would go on to become the Crane's Daimyo, Asahina Yuki, who ventured out into the wide world and Daidoji Maru and Yoruichi, who curiously both disappeared after the final battle, were the heroes of this war. Praised by both the Emperor they helped install and many of the Clans' Daimyos as instrumental in turning the tide, it is likely that without them the war wouldn't have been in Yoshimune's favour.
