Courting in Arthos

Marriage in Arthos is a very special occasion. It brings together two people who love each other as well as bringing together their magic.

History

It's unclear when the tradition first began, but many think it may date back to the founding of Arthos. One of the first recorded instances of the ceremony is between a mage of Arthos and an Elf of Illlini. It goes into detail to say that the couple were married, but were attacked by Illini citizens on the way home. It is unclear what happened to them, and if they survived or not.

Execution

It is customary for the one doing the proposing to give their love a bouquet of peonies and a mana crystal of their choosing. The recipient will then give them a mana crystal in return. This symbolizes the exchanging of magic between the new couple. A trusted friend will stay with the one doing the proposing throughout the ceremony. They will guide the couple to the chapel and watch over them while they say their vows. The friend will then approve or deny the vows. If they approve, the couple is now married. If they deny, the couple can never get married again and must return the mana crystals to one another.

Components and tools

Items needed to propose are two mana crystals and a bouquet of peonies. Peonies symbolize good fortune and a happy marriage. The crystals are meant to show the exchanging of magic and the acceptance of one another.

Participants

Of course, the pair getting married are needed for the ceremony. A trusted friend is also needed to watch over the couple, and approve their vows once they are at the chapel.

Observance

Generally, the date the two are married is somehow important to one of the parties involved. Be it a birthday, a deathday, or they day the pair met.
