Mephistopheles
(a.k.a. Merchant of Souls, The Twisted Tongue)
Mephestopheles was an archdevil aiding Asmodeus. His minions kept the soul contracts and oversaw entry of souls, an important position in Hell’s court: souls are the primary source of fiendish power.
But Mephistopheles is a cunning strategist, and when Asmodeus was laid low by the Unkillable Bastards, he betrayed Asmodeus and seized control of the first four layers of The Nine Hells. They are locked in conflict to this day.
He is secretly exalted by many who seek to get ahead in trade and politics. His impenetrable contracts are an inspiration.
