Eleionomae

The Eleionomae are a species of naiad that inhabit swamps and marshlands, their largest known settlement lies within the Slugwill Marsh.This home has no name that is known to the public.
The Swamp Naiads are a matriarchal society. They are governed by those with the strongest innate nature magic, whom the Eleionomae believe are born closest to their divine creator.
When an interloper dies in the marsh, the eleionomae string up the body far from their territory, to bait necrophages away from their home.

Defences

The Eleionomae are naturally protected by their habitat. The Slugwill Marsh is one of the most hostile environments in Arxios. It is said that there lives a massive population of necrophages that feast upon the remains of explorers and locals alike. 

Occasionally, explorers in the marsh come upon humanoid corpses strung up in the trees by vines. It is believed that the Eleionomae use the marsh's victims as bait for the ghouls that prowl the area, in order to keep the monsters fed and away from their home.

Points of interest

The Upside-Down Tree

Many reports from adventurers mention sighting a colossal tree in the distance that appears to have grown upside down, its roots branching out into the sky while its canopy rests on the swamp floor. Some believe this is the home of the Eleionomae, though any who attempt to approach have found themselves turned around, coming out back where they started.
