Thaozim (Tay-oh-zimm)

Thaozim is one of three mind flayers known to dwell within Arxios. As far as our heroes know, he has two associates, unnamed, who are hiding within the province. After the party of adventurers disrupted his operation at the Labyrinthine Temple, Thaozim fled with teleportation magic, and his current whereabouts are unknown.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Thaozim is old, especially for a mind flayer, who have not been known to age. This could be attributed to the fact that the three illithids in Arxios do not appear to be connected to a larger colony.

In the visions of The Witnesses, Thaozim and the other mind flayers are revealed to be undead, kept alive by absorbing the life of other creatures through a ritual involving a mysterious golden spearhead.

Apparel & Accessories

At the Lumin Brewery, Thaozim's Simulacrum, disguised as a goblin, wore a magical cloak fashioned from the hide of a Dire Chicken, and carried a gnarled wooden staff through which he cast spells.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Thaozim is one of three mind flayers behind the Slugwill Swill operation. Though their involvement is a secret, it appears they are either employing or working with the Slugwill Gangs to produce and distribute the drug. 

Some of Thaozim's history was found within the research journals discovered by The Witnesses. The journals describe Thaozim's journey to create the recipe for Swill itself, involving alchemical experiments, and live trials on captured subjects. 

Up until recently, Thaozim was operating out of the Lumin Brewery, using a Simulacrum clone to oversee distribution operations with Luuka Slugwill, while remaining safe at the Labyrinthine Temple where Swill was produced. After the party of adventurers infiltrated and shut down the brewery, Thaozim surmised that they would discover the location of the Temple Factory, and began preparations to complete the operation, sending out the final shipments before the adventurers arrived.
