Fey

They dance in the moonlight and play with sunbeams. Their great trees walk across groves and replant themselves where the sun's warm light touches. The fey are beautiful, graceful, whimsical, and terrifying. They are hewn from pure magic and Ashaia's latent excitement. Wonder and horror all in one small, winged parcel.

Social Structure

While there is no set hierarchy in Faerie, might makes right tends to set the social structure. If you are the most powerful fey of the Unseelie, you rule it. The struggle for power does not go all the way to the top often, as there are few creatures on Ashaia who could stand up to the queens Titania and Mab, but there is often bickering among the smaller pixies, nixies, dryads, and satyr type folk.

The fey are divided into two factions: the Seelie and Unseelie courts. While they are considered both the governing bodies over all fey and the reigning orders of the Wildwood and Witchwood, respectively, not all fey bow to the courts and their laws are more like guidelines.

History

The fey once ruled Ashaia alongside the Nephilim as the whimsical creators of new and fantastic creatures. They coated the nephilim's stone sculptures in luscious grass and steadfast oak trees. Under the rule of the Queen of Air and Light and the King of Air and Darkness they prospered for ten-thousand years, until the death of their benevolent queen. When the King of Air and Darkness dove into the heart of madness, slaying Malthygmos the fey split into two factions, ruled by the two daughters of their Queen and King, never to be reunited.

The Seelie Fey

Queen Titania and her consort King Oberon reign supreme over the Seelie Court, a grand collection of the strongest fey in the land. The Seelie Court presides over the Wildwood and prides itself on its intense love of beauty and whimsy. Though at odds with the Unseelie, the queen Titania yearns for her sister's return and would see the fey reunited under Seelie banners once and forever more.

The Unseelie Fey

When the Night Sovereign was exiled from the Wildwood many fey followed their would-be king. They were tainted by what they saw as their kin's betrayal and grew cold. Their whimsy turned to cruelty and their warm hearts froze over with malice. Their creations changed from wonderful creatures of comfort to horrible monsters of torment. Their queen, Mab, would see the Seelie subjugated and the Unseelie Court ruling from on-high. Despite this, they are not all reckless abandon and cruelty. In many ways the two fey are much the same, but some say that the darkness in their hearts has stained them forever and left them beyond redemption.
