The Man Named Job
The man known as Job is a kind, righteous man who established the survivor sanctuary known as the Homestead in the former Midwestern United States following the devastation of Earth in the Great Cataclysm and the destruction of the last chance for a civilized human society by the Searing Plague. Job is the counterpart to the sadistic, nihilistic man known as Abaddon, leader and god-king of the infamous gang the Apollyon. The two have met in the past, but the defensive measures around Job's community prevent Abaddon from taking it by force. As such, he seeks constantly to penetrate these defenses with more subtle means, considering Job to be his chief rival. Job, for his part, does not believe in violence or hatred of enemies, but nonetheless maintains great strength to defend his people from hostiles. He is seen as a father figure and a leader by the population of the Homestead, though he himself claims no governing power.
