Seascorn

Transmission & Vectors

Not virulent or contagious, but those who are captured by the Seascorn are dragged out to the ocean, and undergo this transformation.

Causes

A shard of the Comet of Cassandora fell into the surrounding Assyrian sea as it entered the atmosphere. Small, but no less potent, it sunk to the oceanbed, where it garnered the attention of greater beings lurking in the deep.

Symptoms

Rapid and dramatic mutation of the body to accomodate the growth of appendages individually suited to sea life. Mutations can include gills, fins, venomous spines, eyes suited for low lighting, cartiligious skin, and changes to the skeleton itself. The process is agonizing and has a great toll on the psyche of those who undergo this transformation. The mutations also increase the individual's strength and resilience greatly, and elongates their lifespans. Some afflicted have even been seen surviving otherwise fatal blows.

Prognosis

Madness is almost guaranteed, along with an insatiable lust for power, and the desire to force others to undergo the transformation.

History

First appearing around the year 200, when researchers from Ushad delved into the deep ocean to find a source of magical power. Changed by it, they became the first afflicted by Seascorn. It has been a constant threat since for coastal settlements and traders passing through, though a heavy-handed response by the Assyrian navy meant that the Seascorn was never able to get out of control.
