Once a thriving city state and a sanctuary for elvaran magi and scholars of the arcane arts, the City of D'aethron now lies in ruins, destroyed by Emperor Lucianno in the midst of the Second Great Elvaran War.   The city was founded during the Reformation Era in 1 A.E. by a community of Mathidoni moderates who had sympathies towards the alliance and human magi seeking a refuge.   Despite originally settling in Revaelor, many magi felt they needed their own place of safety, where they were free to study orthodox magic in its entirety and preserve the knowledge of the arcane and natural law.   Over the course of the initial millennium, the settlement experienced remarkable growth and transformed into a major city on the elvaran continent. Alongside its development as a major trading hub, it forged strong ties with the Duchy of Tarryn and, notably, the Bridgeport Guild of Scholars. D'aethron's extensive scholarly tradition strengthened this connection.

Political Structure

D'aethron was formed to be a technocracy.   The High Council, consisting of knowledgeable individuals in their respective fields, made all laws and policy decisions.   The council's leader, referred to as the Patriarch, was elected to a lifelong position through a majority vote by the council. The Patriarch served as the leader of the city and had the final say in settling a divided council vote.   Despite this, the Patriarch was considered first amongst equals of the D'aethron High Council.

The Fall of D'aethron

Emperor Lucianno's forces launched a full-scale attack on the city on the 28th of Lunaris in the year 1382 A.E. This came after Lucianno accused the leadership of D'aethron of sheltering Tarryn loyalists who escaped following the Vanguard Revolution, as well as various "criminals" such as magi refugees from Malvarron.   Testing of the newly developed weaponry by the Vanguard forces involved the use of Springals armed with dwarven black powder bombs, specifically designed to detonate upon hitting the target. The mostly wooden houses and stone towers of the city did not stand a chance against such an onslaught of destruction.   The Battle of D'aethron marked the first major conflict of Emperor Lucianno's reign and is considered to be the bloodiest battle in the 2nd Great Elvaran War, with over 6000 people losing their lives.

The City of D'aethron is named after the flowering plant Aster which is native to the elvaran continent.   Elvarans believe the plant symbolises wisdom and faith, and is particularly associated with the Guardian of Magic—Mathonir.
