Session 6 - Mining Mayhem
General Summary
Tork, having previously struck Mithril in an obscure cave he found while exploring the ruins beneath The Bastion, has recruited the aid of Lou Garow and Varis Sylvaranth to explore with him further in search of any potentially valuable minerals or gems. Together, they descend down into the ruins, the destitute lower regions of the Bastion destroyed by time and neglect alike. Once a stalwart, vast stronghold reduced to little more than a broken stone labyrinth underground, these spots attract little in the way of good attention and are a place people go who do not want to be found. The ruins are hotspots for shady deals, muggings, and murders - as well as the favored hangouts for those who engage in such things. However, far worse creatures have been known to lurk in its deepest depths...
As the party approaches one of the many entrances to descend down, they are halted by Kohdama who offers them a word of advice before they enter. Kohdama reveals that the reason the lower regions of the bastion have never officially been settled, is because it is afflicted by some unknown magical property which makes it near impossible to navigate. It is as if though the ruins themselves have a mind of their own, with passageways frequently changing and new chambers appearing over time. Due to its strange nature, he offers a word of caution, and provides the party with a teleportation scroll inscribed with the upper Bastion's location, should they require a quick means of escape.
The adventurers descend in the direction of the cave that Tork was mining Mithril, which was now depleted. They soon came to a junction of tunnel networks, and due to his expert survival skills, Tork was able to lead them in the direction of yet another mithril vein. Coming upon a small ladder, their journey brings them to a large cavern laden with mithril - as well as thick webs and strange eggs. The crew quickly get to work mining the mithril, as well as sampling some of the eggs. Varis casts a green flame of dancing lights to illuminate the cavern, and they are at once ambushed by several giant spiders that descend upon them from the cavern ceiling. The spiders have venomous bites and shoot sticky webbing that immobilizes their targets. Working together, the party manages to defeat their foes, though not without a good deal of injury to themselves. Discovering another chamber, the party fought and even larger and fiercer mother spider, but managed to defeat it and take its fangs as a trophy. Before leaving, a chest of valuables along with the corpse of a bastionite was found, and a portion of the spider eggs nested there were destroyed.
Continuing through the labyrinth of the subterranean ruins, the party stumbles upon a warm light and the sound of music in the distance of the tunnels. There they find a small camp, where roguish types have gathered. Leading this camp is a massive brass dragonborn, who reveals himself to be the infamous Baxos Delmirev. Delmirev welcomes the party as guests and allows them to eat and rest there - meanwhile, they are watched closely by his guards. The dragonborn offers not only his hospitality, but also an offer to form an alliance that he claims would be mutually beneficial. He reveals that it was he who had financed a majority of the construction of the Pit Fighting ring, and that he has many more plans for the Bastion's future - though to do so, there must be a change in leadership. Those that directly oppose him ands his "methods" must be eliminated, namely Kohdama, Brummelda and the upper guardsmen of the militia. The party however are wary of his intentions, and having decided nothing, Delmirev asks that they simply think on his proposition - and that his contacts will find them when the time comes, should they reach a decision...
