Abarat Alluin Loviel van Ilopia
The current monarch of Ilopia, and head of the Loviel dynasty. King Abarat is staunchly traditional in most things when it comes to ruling his kingdom. His only deviation from tradition was to allow same-sex royal consorts to hold the same positions as a heterosexual partner would. The popular story is that he fell so deeply for Vaeril that he could not stand the thought of anyone else holding the position of the royal consort.
However, there is speculation that perhaps his relationship with Vaeril is a cover for fulfilling a wish of the late Queen Riniya Amisra Loviel van Ilopia, his grandmother. There was also a rumor that the late Queen was in a relationship with her closest confidant Lady Aurea Dakas, but was unable to make the relationship public due to the pressure some traditionalists were placing on her for being a woman. The close relationship between King Abarat and his late grandmother Queen Riniya is quite famous, and Lady Aurea who was removed from the palace upon Queen Riniya's death was given quarters in the palace when King Abarat took the throne years later.
It is said that the two have a close relationship, almost as if she was family, and that she was seen crying tears of pride and joy on the day King Abarat announced his intention to change the laws. This is of course all speculation that is generally rebuked by the open and daily affection King Abarat shows Prince Consort Vaeril.
However, many are curious about the line of succession, and how the King intends to produce or acquire an heir for the throne. Having held the title for some years now with no clear answer nobles are getting up in arms about the line of succession, especially since Abarat's younger sister, Duchess Arthion Merlara Vatumal van Ilopia, has recently conceived with her husband, Duke Nuvian Vatumal. Some nobles are urging the King and Prince Consort to adopt this child and make them their heir, but none of the parties involved have cared to comment on the suggestion.
