Aasimar

"The man we had known as Edrick for so long was gone, replaced by a pale, gleaming figure. With celestial fury blazing in his eyes, he flung his newly sprouted wings outward, sending a wave of golden flame crashing into the Demon before us."
— Thefaren Blueheart, To Kill a Demogorgon
Aasimar of Asylum bear within their souls the light of the heavens. They are descended from the celestial creatures that inhabit Bliss, carrying a blessed power within their blood, which they wield as unwitting soldiers in the war against Torment. Aasimar can arise from any population of mortals, born whenever a celestial deigns to bless the world with their power. While often heralded as omens of good fortune, the birth of an Aasimar can also attract scorn from those that resent celestials.

Celestial Heritage

An Aasimar's divine power shines through in their appearance. While Aasimar mostly resemble their mortal parents, they will often have features that hint at or outright reveal their celestial nature. These features will usually begin subtle, but become more obvious as they focus and hone their heavenly powers. When an Aasimar unleashes their true power, their appearance might change even more drastically, perhaps growing golden wings, or becoming wreathed in light. The Celestial Features table has examples you can choose or use as inspiration to create your own.

Unwitting Soldiers

The Aasimar are one of Asylum's most ancient races, having been spawned by the first celestials to visit the plane centuries before even the Elders arrived. They were created for one purpose only - to destroy the forces of Torment that linger in Asylum. They are the foot soldiers of the Divine Host, it's first line of defence in Asylum, and ultimately, pawns in the war between good and evil. From the moment their divine powers awaken, Aasimar are dragged into a war that is not their own. Their divine nature inevitably draws the attention of fiends, monsters and all those devoted to the cause of Torment, all of whom would be eager to strike a blow against the Divine Host. In face of this, many Aasimar reject their nature and the war, living lives of solitude, and keeping a low profile.

Divine Origin

Aasimar can appear virtually anywhere in Asylum, born from any race, and have a number of different origins. Whether they were born from the union between a Solar and a mortal, or were blessed by a Kirin at a young age, every Aasimar is born from some form of interaction between the celestials of Bliss and the innocent mortals of Asylum. The Aasimar Origin table has examples you can choose as the origin of your Celestial character, or to use as inspiration to create your own.
