Asylum is a high fantasy, dungeon punk setting that is home to many people from across the multiverse.
It is a world ruled by its past, with the very land itself still influenced by the supremely powerful Elders that have long since died out. It is a world where science replicates magic, where the mistakes of history are repeated again and again, and where heroes rise to every occasion.

It has been some 800 years since the Great Severing that ended the mage wars, and some several thousand since the Elders died out. The world now enters a new age, an age of tension and invention; the Age of Iron.
Natural mages are a scarcity now, the horrors of magic inflicted on the world still fresh in the minds of those who suffered. Attentions turn to science and technology, to recreate that power that was lost. Power vacuums, the likes of which not seen since the fall of the Elders, are filled by armies demanding justice. All the while, something festers in the dark. An ancient and terrible creature lies in wait for the hapless mortals careening down the same path of invention that was walked before.
As the millenium draws to a close, the gears begin to turn. A grand plan ages in the making begins to unfold. Okiron falls into disarray amidst a gang war. A ruby star threatens annihilation, and wakes the dragons from their slumber. Primus Imperium marches on the borders of their enemies. Heroes answer their calls to action, and villains make their move. The time has come to make history... or to destroy it.
