Okiron
Okiron is a large city-state situated on the south coast of the Gilded Coast. It is considered to be one of the most important and influential cities of the south coast, and perhaps in all of Irral itself. It's position makes it a tremendous trade hub for ships passing through the Golden Strait, and it's history as the Elder's former seat of power lends an inherent air of strength to the city.
The city itself is broken into two distinct tiers. Above ground, the Lower Ring houses the public trade centers, and most of the working class. Beneath the Lower Ring, in the Underdark, is the Upper Ring, home of the nobles and wealthy elite of the city.
Description
Okiron is an ancient city, once a tremendous bastion of steel, science and magic from which the Elders ruled Asylum, it is now a vast, sprawling city hunched atop the ruins of the Elder's ambitions. After the fall of the Elders, the city fell into Dwarven hands, as the Goldmane Kingdom continued conquering much of what would become the Gilded Coast. After the Kingdoms collapse, the city shook off multiple attempted invasions, eventually arrising as a city-state under it's own rule.Geography
The city is positioned on the southern coast of the continent, towards the middle of the Gilded Coast. The plains surrounding it provide ample space for farmland. Beneath the city is a vast Underdark cavern, part of the Achuak Domain of the Western Underdark.Government
Okiron is ruled by a twelve-seat council of anonymous, but powerful, individuals. The Masked Council of Okiron, otherwise known as The Maskwearers, maintain their identity by hiding behind magical masks. These masks are custom to each of the council members, and each of the members is known by an epithet, inspired by the traditions of the Aldrian Church. None but the secret mask makers know the true identity of the Okiron Council, not even the other members, and the subject of their identity is something of popular urban legend and theory amongst the cities inhabitants. The Maskwearers meet to discuss matters of import in the city in a grand debate parlour at the center of the Okiron Council Palace. Such meetings are open to the public to view, though extensive security measures are in place to ensure the security of the council. Two members of the Council stick out - The Black Judge and the White Judge. These Maskwearers oversee trials conducted by the Iron Magisters, and serve as a method of keeping the magisters in line. The known Maskwearer epithets are: The Black Judge, The White Judge, The Red Visionary, The Blue Lion, The Azure Dragon, The Grey Whisper, The Green Hermit, The Gold Oracle, The Violet Cunning, The Scarlet Jester, The Silver Paragon and The Rose Dancer.Trade
Thanks to it's Eldertech origins, Okiron primarily trades in magitech. Beyond that, they also trade raw resources, such as stone and metals, and essence. They commonly import grains, livestock, leather and exotic goods from far away lands.Culture
