Dalelands

The Dalelands, also referred to as the Dales, or the Humanlands, started as a geopolitical region of Adlak and has since grown to be a geopolitical empire that now includes areas on the continent of Veluntia, and comprises loosely-organized groups of humans that remain diverse and act with varying degrees of autonomy. The original Highlands consist of rolling green hills and farmlands. The Lowlands and Veluntian Dales are made up of dense forest and tall mountains, while the lands to the south are made up of dry desert sands.

Geography

The Dalelands are located primarily on the continent of Adlak, around the Forest of Cormanthyr and the Nyr-Dyv.

Government

First and foremost the Dalelands were a loose confederation of small towns in the Highlands. Each dale maintains their own militia and government, whether a lordship like Hommlet or a republic led by groups such as the Council of Merchants. The one thing the Dales are not, is a unified kingdom, despite the outward appearance of unification due to living under multiple uniting forces and global empires. However, representatives from each dale would meet together once a year in winter to discuss issues related to trade, other nations, and inter-border disputes at the Dales Council. Here they would also appoint a Daleking. In all reality, the Daleking is just a title held by a member of the Council of Dales who acts on their behalf when the entire council is unable to travel or meet with foreign powers. While debates in the council chambers would often dissolve into pointless arguing and bickering, in the face of a common foe, such as invasion attempts by the Third Admer Empire or the discovery of Phisij's schemes, the dales would band together as a unified force. The council could also be called in the face of an emergency that threatened the region as a whole.

Culture

While the various dales shared a similar culture, alike lifestyles and aligned relationships with nearby powers, they were not a unified nation like nearby Thurdarth and Cormanthyr Empire.  Each dale was an independent territory with its own unique government, military, industry and culture. However, the people were largely independent, self-reliant and had collectively enjoyed an age-old alliance with the elves of Cormanthyr, in thanks to repeated alliances against various threats.   Travelers visiting the Dalelands might see the folk as reserved, suspicious or even as "country bumpkins". They are a quiet people who typically preferred to remain civil, silent and deliberate about someone's character until they are well enough known to be accepted as a friend, or even an ally. Once this trust was earned, friends of the Dalesfolk find them to be quite open and generous.   Farming, craftsmanship and commerce are all highly valued throughout the dales. Honest and hearty, the Dalesfolk hold firmly-held beliefs that their industriousness and virtue will overcome any foreign schemes and exotic magic that attempt to sway their land.

History

The Dalelands was created out of necessity during wartime to prevent the destruction of the human race. After the construction of the Dalestone, and the first signatories, the Dalelands was born.

Worship

The Dalelands has many religions and cults that are worshiped inside its borders, but the two most popular amongst the humans are the Prime Pantheon and the Druidic faiths.
