sXVIII: Lareth the Beautiful

General Summary

As the door was smashed in, C2 reflectively put up a shield that blocked the magic imbued quarterstaff that had broken through. As Cure-rig/Cofveve//C2 scurried back to Firebrand, a figure of horrid feature stepped through the shattered doorway. A man with a horrid scar across his left eye, as though from a mace, stood angrily on the top of the old herb shop's steps, quarterstaff in one hand, and a dark black shield emblazoned with a bright golden flaming eye.

Operation: Lost Hand

Leaping down from the steps of his home the man challenged Firebrand, whom at the time was wearing an ochre colored robe trimmed with gold. This challenge of one on one combat would not happen, as Legion, C2, and Dùghall entered the fight nearly instantly in the confusion. Angry and insane, the man moved about the street with speed greater than the party could keep up with, and on the loosing side the mercenaries would attempt to communicate with the man.
Finally being able to convince him that they where spies from Hommlet, they were able to get parlay with the mad man, who revealed himself to be a cultists back during the first rebirth, and knew nothing of this current second, and in fact upon learning of this re-reborn cult grew even angrier at the presence of the mercenaries.
Leaving the house of the man they would come to know as Lareth, the mercenaries would seek out the camp outside of Nulb set up by Xaod the Slayer and enjoy a much earned rabbit stew and rest on the banks of the run.

Operation: Black Rose

The next day Xaod lead the party through the town and the Ironwoods half a league to the ruined temple outside the ghost town of Nulb. Here the mercenaries felt a true evil, oppressive and growing. The temple was indeed not empty, like Xaod had said. Inhabited with about fifty goblinoids (Hobgoblins), their fires, drums, and wicked barks could be heard and seen from the wicked and twisted grove that surrounded the ruined temple of evil.

Find out the size of the force inhabiting the ruined temple.
