Feast of Saint Paloren
The Feast of Saint Paloren is a cultural and religious holiday observed on the 19th of First Bloom, the traditional death date of Saint Paloren (1085-1161), the foremost patron saint of the Curtheni peoples.
Saint Paloren
Paloren was an 11th-century Atarran missionary who was the first to bring the religion into the Maromere region. He is believed to have spent years in the northern region preaching the word of Steddr, eventually converting a majority of what would eventually coalesce into the Curtheni cultural group. According to legend, before he arrived the region was infested with poisonous snakes to the point that no permanent settlements could be established. The city of Verrkolaj grew up around the site at which he constructed the region's first temple to Steddr, and it is said that the snakes fled in fear and were driven deep into the forest. In 1161 he was killed by a group of Merendings who resisted his teachings, and became seen as a martyr.Feast Day Celebrations
Over time, celebrations of the life of Saint Paloren became commonplace among the Curtheni population. The traditional celebration took a somber tone, with celebrants lighting candles in remembrance. Over time the feast day began to merge with native spring festivals, due in large part to Paloren's death date coinciding with the Spring Equinox. After the Curtheni diaspora following the Merending War, the Feast of Saint Paloren took on new life among the scattered populace. Today, the festival is a larger celebration among the diaspora than it is in the Maromere itself. The largest celebration occurs every year in Roselawn, where a sizable Curtheni population is located.Feast of Saint Paloren
