Moonshattering

The Moonshattering was a major event that occurred in 1732IR, in which the moon of Elar was destroyed by a powerful spell cast by Déonian High Battlemage Erolith.

Leadup

In 1625 IR, a mysterious ship docked in the city of Talvion in northern Aldor. The ship contained an emissary from the Ajokai Empire, a powerful empire from across the Lucent Expanse. This was the first time any in the known world had learned of a civilization in the far north. This emissary was taken to the capital city of Estariol, and after spending several weeks in the court of King Elegost they mysteriously vanished in the night and were never heard from again.   In 1731 IR, over a hundred years later, a massive fleet of Ajokai ships arrived on the northern shore of Aldor and began an invasion. The armies ran rampant across the continent and within the span of eight months stood on the cusp of total victory. In desperation, the King Elegost ordered a complete evacuation of the nation before he was slain in battle. The remaining Déonian forces held off the Ajokai to the best of their ability so that as many civilians could be evacuated as possible before pulling back to the capital of Estariol. There, the High Battlemage Erolith ordered all in the city to evacuate, single-handedly holding off the Ajokai at the Ashen Harbor until the last ship left.

The Spell

Seeing Déon to be as evacuated as possible, Erolith summoned incredibly powerful magic to break the moon of Elar into pieces and called them down in a storm of fire and stone to wipe out the invading armies. For three days, the resulting meteor storm laid waste to the entire continent but successfully destroyed the majority of the Ajokai hordes, thus preventing the rest of the world from falling to Déon's fate. Erolith himself would be killed in the barrage.
