Gennuven Piercing Rituals

Written by orphidor

The Gennuven of the Higher Realm tend to accumulate more and more piercings as they grow older. By the time they reach old age, they may have many studs and small hoops in their ears, lips, nostrils, and even their cheeks or the bridges of their noses. The piercings are thought to stimulate thought and allow ideas to flow freely.

History

This tradition started with simple piercings like the earlobes or the nostril, but has since extended to include multiple different parts of the face and ear.

Execution

As the piercing hole is created, the piercer (who is usually an elder or a priest) conveys a blessing upon the one being pierced, intended to open their mind to new ideas. As the stud or hoop is being placed within the newly-created hole, a spell for creativity is spoken by the piercer.

Components and tools

Due to the fact that it's surprisingly common in the Higher Realm, gold is often used for the studs and hoops. An instrument like a thorn or a thoroughly-cleaned fang from some small creature is used to create the hole.

Participants

There are two main roles in this custom: the one doing the piercing and the one being pierced. The ordeal is typically a private affair attended by few (if any) observers.
