Gennuven Visual Arts (JEN-oo-vehn)

Written by orphidor

For the Gennuven of the Higher Realm, the experiences of making and viewing art are both viewed as highly meditative. Their use of stark colors and dizzying patterns result in pieces that can be hard to comprehend or even look at but, interestingly enough, that's just part of the artists' ambition.

Execution

Repeating abstract forms and patterns are the most common subjects in Gennuven art. Mirrored and rotational symmetry, as well as the use of a single shape duplicated numerous times, are both recurring themes.

Components and tools

The Gennuven are fond of paints and ink. The paints they use include watercolors, egg tempera, and oils. The colors they use in a single piece usually contrast with one another in both hue and shade. The Gennuven apply paint and ink alike with carefully-crafted brushes atop paper, boards, and even walls. In some cases, they'll decorate every inch of a meaningful room with designs and patterns.

Participants

The artist and the observer are the two participants. Creating a piece of art and taking it in as a viewer are seen as equally impactful, though in slightly different ways. During the process of creating art, Gennuven artists try to enter a trance state where they work based off of pure intellectual impulse, independent of what may be going on in their physical surroundings. Intently observing a completed piece in order to induce deeper states of meditation is extremely common practice among the Gennuven as well.
