Roberto Ferarri

Doctor Roberto Ferarri

Roberto Ferarri was born to a family of metalworking artisans from the City-State of Reme.  As the second-youngest child in a large middle class family, Roberto learned that he had to compete against his siblings in order to get what he wanted.  When he developed a talent for research and magic, the family could not afford to send him to a good school, so he found ways to "acquire" the money so that he could attend the University of Bolonga in Florence.  His family had doubts as to his ability to succeed, as they felt that his horrible speech impediment would tax his career too much.  Instead, he excelled in his chosen field of wizardry and archeology, and went on several ventures into Empire of the Phoinix and wrote extensive papers on the K'Thonim.   His reputation paid off in time, and he was hired by Library of Londinium as an expert in the K'Thonim.  Here he combs the records and news for information on Atlantica for the library.  Recently he learned of an expedition from Howth University to find the Fountain of Youth in the closer regions of The Swamp Coast.  Unwilling to take second place to a rival, he found a way to steal the information that the expedition was going to use for finding its location and use it for his own venture instead.  The Library funded part of the expedition, but in order to get it fully funded he used other, less reputable means to get the rest of the money.   His Venture was a "success" in that he returned to the Library with rubbings of stone carvings from the site, having barely escaped with his life.  Rumor has it that he may have been willing to spend the lives of some of his fellow travelers to get what he wanted from that expedition.  There is no denying his papers on the subject are both brilliant and reliable, but that his reputation comes at a cost from the darker, more competitive side.   Roberto is unable to pronounce his R or L sounds in everyday speech.  Sadly, this does not work out well for him, even in introducing himself.  It comes out, "Hewwo, my name is Wobewt Fewwawi." Roberto's speech impediment makes people underestimate and mock him.  This ongoing struggle in his life just makes him want to prove himself all the more.  His academic legacy is more important to him than how he achieves it.
"Yes, his articles are above reproach.  Yes, his conclusions are brilliant. Yes, he's a huge jerk and I wouldn't trust him."   ~ Anonymous coworker, Library of Londinium
