Temple of the Sea

The Temple of the Sea is one of the most magnificent religious structures in all of Atraeleon. It is located in the heart of Ophiria, overlooking the sea, and is dedicated to Desna, the goddess of the moon and the sea.   The temple is a grand edifice, with towering columns, sweeping arches, and a massive central dome that is visible from miles away, even glowing in moonlight. The structure is built of white marble and adorned with intricate carvings and mosaics depicting the sea, the stars, and the moon. Many of the Great Arches of Desna that tower over Ophiria originate at the temple, some protruding from its walls and others from its ceiling and surrounding grounds. It is said these arches are objects of Desna's power, facilitating her direct influence on the world of Atraeleon.   Inside the temple, visitors will find a vast sanctuary filled with soft blue light that filters through stained glass windows depicting the phases of the moon. The walls of the sanctuary are adorned with murals depicting scenes of ocean life, and the ceiling is painted to resemble the night sky, complete with twinkling stars.   At the heart of the temple is the main altar, a massive structure made of gleaming silver and decorated with precious jewels. Here, priests of Desna perform rituals and offer prayers to the goddess, asking for her protection and blessings upon the sea and all those who sail upon it. Lucretia Augusta, the high priestess of Desna, oversees the operations of the temple and its many priests, priestesses, and acolytes, as well as any clerics that may call the temple home.   Visitors to the Temple of the Sea are welcomed with open arms, and many come to offer prayers for safe travels, good fishing, and blessings upon their loved ones. It is a place of peace and tranquility, where the gentle sound of waves and the soft glow of moonlight remind worshippers of the enduring power of the goddess Desna.
