Hypergates {*}
Hypergates are a form of faster-than-light transportation used by the ancient Gree civilization.
Overview
A network of devices that create hyperspace wormholes, hypergates use an unknown technology to circumvent mass shadows in hyperspace and allow near-instant travel through space to other hypergates. Hypergates have a variety of sizes and functionality, with such shapes typically being freestanding accessways, gateways, or archways. Those who activate the technology and step through the threshold are instantly transported through hyperspace to a corresponding hypergate terminus at another location. Such locations tend to vary, as a receiving hypergate is capable of being located on the same planet of origin, or another world entirely—with rumoured variant gates capable of sending entire starships across the known galaxy.
They are considered a significant development of Gree technology. Amongst the Gree, the hypergates are venerated by their culture as sacred relics of technological works of art. Their civilization has long claimed that only the elite Gatemasters of their Operator caste are capable of activating a hypergate, though this may only be a cultural bias. Hypergares have become a lost technology that the Gree refuse to duplicate.
One variant of these devices is the Grand Hypergate located in the ruins outside the city of Satikan on the planet Asation. Appearing as a circle surrounded by seven archways around a central obelisk, these ancient pieces of technology are remnants of the almost forgotten Gree civilization. Each archway is a hypergate. Two of these terminate at the planet Gree, and the others, save two, terminate on the worlds of Te Hasa, Malanose, and Licha In. Where the remaining two hypergates terminate is unknown. The central obelisk is believed to be the control point from which the gate is activated; however, the planet's Gatemaster has long forgotten the secrets of using the technology.
History
These devices were constructed countless millennia ago in a time known to the Gree as "the most ancient and forgotten days." In time, a number of these devices were spread across the space of the Gree Enclave with dozens once connecting the myriad of Gree worlds. In the aftermath of their creation, other forms of personal interplanetary travel became obsolete—though starships were still claimed to have been used on occasion. As Gree society declined, their ability and willingness to duplicate their technology atrophied. The secret of building hypergate technology was known only to Gree masters, who operated their remaining constructor devices. After centuries of neglect, only ruins of them remained, and their existence became a closely guarded secret. A major hub of the hypergate system was the Grand Hypergate on Asation, but due to the Asation gatemaster's inability to use it, it was little more than a historical monument. By this point, not even the Gree fully understood hypergate technology.
On Tython, the early Je'daii Tythans discovered the "Old City"—an ancient and abandoned city of ziggurats and pyramids located in the Red Desert. It had been abandoned long ago, but rumours persisted of a working hypergate present in the settlement—however none had ever been discovered. The Je'daii came to speculate that the Old City was constructed or at some point inhabited by the Gree, potentially for tens of millennia. Regardless of its original builders, the Gree did install a hypergate within the bowels of the cavern system beneath the tallest of the pyramids. The caverns leading to it were dotted with pitfalls and great ravines, subterranean lakes, and vents. The Je'daii Council did not explicitly acknowledge the existence of the hypergate, though they placed traps along the caverns leading to its alleged location. During the year prior to the beginning of the Force Wars, Dalien Brock led a sect of Stargazers into the pits in hopes of activating the hypergate and leaving Tython behind in search of their long-lost homeworlds. Je'daii Ranger Lanoree Brock, Dalien's sister, stopped this attempt, supposedly killing her brother, though his body was never recovered.
During the Galactic War between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire, the rogue Sith known as the Dread Masters directed their servant Kephess to the Gree world of Asation. Once there, the twisted Trandoshan activated the hypergate and allowed countless unknown terrors to ravage the planet. In response, the Gree sent ambassadors to both the Republic and Empire to request aid. A strike team from both factions later travelled to Asation, where they battled the creatures besieging the planet and confronted Kephess, who was ultimately killed. However, the opened hypergate brought a monstrous being to the planet, which the strike teams had to force back into the hyperspace threshold and remove its hold from the gate, thus defeating it.
Utility
Hypergates are a form of faster-than-light transportation used by the ancient Gree civilization.
Manufacturing
A constructor device was an ancient Gree machine used to construct hypergates. Constructors reportedly can assemble almost any sort of equipment using basic materials and an example of the item that it was to created.
Social Impact
With a number of hypergates spread across the space of the Gree Enclave, in the aftermath of their creation other forms of personal interplanetary travel became obsolete.

Access & Availability
Hypergate existence has become a closely guarded secret, and all knowledge on how to access hypergates technology seems to have been lost to time.
Complexity
Hypergates use an unknown technology that can circumvent the hyperspace signatures of large celestial bodies in hyperspace. Hypergate technology is a long forgotten art, and due to its complexity all attempts at replicating/researching its technology have been unsuccessful to date.
Discovery
After centuries of neglect, only ruins of hypergate technology remain in our explored galaxy.
