When the Dragonborn arrived they found the six diamonds already in place, clearly visible as they are a mile and half tall each. A huge section of the Dragonborn world was teleported here when the Dragonborn teleported in mass here fleeing destruction of their home world.

They breed chickens in a hatchery. Greylight makes the whole night into DimLight for those with darkvision. The whole complex has had protection from evil warded into it. Kobolds mine the salt around the Lake of the Lost

Vitelline is the lower of the Diamonds. only Female Dragonborn are allowed within it. Must use highly guarded teleportation circle to reach it as it is roughly 6 miles down floating in a huge cavern above the lava lake for the volcano.
Each of the four diamonds on the ground are attuned to a different element, the elemental energy is focused both down to Vitelline and up to Greylight. Though DB claim to have build the Dimonds, they are relics from the time before.  The Dragonborn simply moved in.
The DB Serve for 100 years, take 100 years off. They do not die of old age.
