Battle at the opal wastes
The final battle of the 70 year war.
Fought in the opal wastes.
The Conflict
Deployment
The remaining forces of Veby have been digging in, building barriers and trenches as a last line of defence to repel the forces of Humbria.
The military forces of Humbria were marching engaging from the north, utilising its arsenal of fearsome siege engines; catapults and ballistae of various sizes to decimate the dug in forces of Veby.
The Engagement
The Veby forces were dug in.
The dwarven forces of Humbria were firing at a safe distance using their siege engines at the dug in forces of Veby. They were firing continuously, planning on firing until they ran out of ammo.
The human forces of Veby were taking heavy casualties from the bombardments and the human prince gave the order to leave the current position to attack the dwarves.
Seeing this, the dwarven commanders decided to continue firing until the humans got close enough to reveal their melee troops that were hiding behind hills the siege engines were standing on.
When the humans saw this it was too late, a desperate fight started with little to no chance of victory for the Veby forces.
The human forces quickly taking more and more casualties attempted to retreat at which point a spare troop of light dwarven forces positioned behind the humans blocking them. The humans were surrounded and were falling quickly at the hands of the dwarves.
When the humans were almost all spent the dwarves showed them mercy and let the survivors retreat, the prince however was captured.
Outcome
The humans of Veby lost their last capable army and the prince of Veby was captured.
Aftermath
This battle marked the end of the 70 year war.
